The latest news and special events from GCEC...NEWS RELEASE Electric Cooperative Members Could Win a $10,000 Home Energy Makeover(Austin, Texas) – At least four electric cooperative members in Texas will each win up to $10,000 in energy-efficiency upgrades this fall as part of the Texas Co-op Power Home Energy Makeover Contest. Co-op member homeowners are eligible to enter their primary residences in this statewide competition. At least four winners will be selected to receive energy-efficiency improvements, including new ground-source or air-source heat pumps, insulation, water heaters and other upgrades. Texas Co-op Power magazine, with a circulation of 1.2 million electric cooperative households, is sponsoring the contest to promote energy efficiency and educate consumers about affordable home upgrades that can save significant electricity costs. Corporate sponsors include Lennox, Rheem Marathon Water Heaters and others who have agreed to donate equipment and services for the home energy makeovers. Contest entries will be accepted from January 1 to March 10, 2010. Homeowners who receive their electricity from a Texas cooperative belonging to Texas Electric Cooperatives, Inc., the state trade association for electric cooperatives, are eligible to enter. Applications will be available in the January and February issues of Texas Co-op Power magazine and online at www.texascooppower.com.
